I've been wanting to start a blog that would celebrate Prescott as it was, featuring some of my husband's post card collection. I hope to involve some old timers, like my husband and myself and perhaps showcase some of their memories and stories.
I had planned to use this old post card of Gurley Street looking up towards Elk's hill as my header. This morning I ran across Jarat's pictures on Prescott Daily Photo featuring much the same view taken at two different times.
It's too much of an opportunity to pass up, so to see the view from today and the sixties and then compare it to somewhere around 1900 is rather fun.

These old post cards are the best, aren't they? We have this same one. I think there were about 10 post cards in my father in laws collection. A real treasure. I'll be looking forward to seeing more of yours!
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is, 1) glad your computer is back & 2) WOW! BTW, to add detail, there are two articles
ReplyDeleteabout the streetcars at the Sharlot Hall Museum website (Days Past).
Jarat, I do love the old cards too. I've been meaning to do this, but launched a little recklessly as I thought my headder card nicely tied to your blog featuring Gurley Street...
ReplyDeleteThanks GJ! And thanks for the streetcar sugestion. I know not when they started or stopped and I think we have more pictures of them...
I have lived 27 different places in my lifetime. The history of the places I live do not interest me but the history of my grandparent's towns does. Pryor, Oklahoma (originally knows at Pryor Creek, IT) and Ponca City, Oklahoma, home of Marland Oil Company and the 101 Ranch. Got a lot of that history from Monica James at Changes In The Wind. This information on Prescott, AZ is going to prove alluring and you might look for an endorsement from the Chamber of Commerce.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouraging words, GA!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that it's the personal history that seems to intrigue us..
Linda..I know I'm going to love this blog!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see more of the old pictures of Prescott. It's been a lot of years since I visited there, but I always liked it so much!
Jan, I love it that you've been to Prescott. I wonder when you were here? We may have passed in the street..unknowing...
ReplyDeleteLinda, I am so glad to see you're doing this new OLD blog! At the blogger meetup yesterday, GrannyJ asked if there's a way I could get you out to the next meetup. Be happy to drive you if I am in town!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katie! You're such a sweetie!
